Erikka Gulbranson - CEO & Founder Currently, Erikka has finished her 5th season as Head Coach at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. Vanguard has become a consistenly ranked team in the Nationally ranked NAIA GSAC Conference. The 2006 season was a re-building year for the team with the addiditon of six freshmen and a transfer setter from a Division I University. The Lions finished in the top Eight, again qualifying for Regionals. 2005 was a great year for the Lions, reaching the Regional Championships for the first time in 18 yeads. In 2004, Vanguard University earned its first berth in 20 years to Regionals as the 4th seed, and maintained a National ranking in the NAIA with several appearances as a Top 25 team. For the past 5 years, Erikka has also been very involved with USA Volleyball National Teams and the High Performance Programs. Running and assisting in development camps as well as developing and coaching in clinics all over the Nation, Erikka has helped to spread the USA Volleyball "philosophy and training ideas" throughout the USA. In her 5 years with USA Volleyball Erikka was selected as the 1st Assistant Coach for the 2003 USA Girl's Youth National Volleyball Team (GYNT) that competed in the Federation of International Volleyball's (FIVB) Under-18 World Championship in Pila, Poland which finished with the USA's highest 4th place ranking. In 2004, as the 1st Assistant Coach with the USA Junior National Team that won the Gold Medal at the NORCECA Zone Qualifiers in Winnipeg, Canada. In 2005, as the Head Coach of the USA Youth National Team that took 4th place in the Federation of International Volleyball's (FIVB) Under-18 World Championship in Macau, China. In 2006, as the Assistant Coach for the USA Junior National Team that won the Gold Medal at the NORCECA Zone Qualifiers in Monterey, Mexico. And most recently as the Assistant Coach for the 2006 Gold Medal USA Youth National Squad that represented the YNT in the BringitUSA International Tournaments held in Slovenia and Serbia. Erikka has over fifteen years of coaching experience. At the club level, she has coached at Kern River, Sports Shack, Nova VBC and Mizuno Long Beach. She also has experience in high school, private, camp and clinic settings. At the university level, she has served as an assistant at CSUB, University of Idaho, Utah State, and most recently at the University of Southern California, where she helped to recruit the classes that helped win the NCAA National Championship in 2002. As a player, Erikka was a four-year team captain and starting outside hitter at Cal State Bakersfield. Helping lead the Roadrunners to three NCAA Division II Championship appearances and two second-place finishes. She was invited to try out for the US National Team following her Senior season as a defensive specialist. She has a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Education from CSUB. |
Torie Sumner - Director & Founder Torie brings a high level of volleyball understanding and experience to Advance Sports Training. She has coached at the University of Idaho as well as multiple high schools and clubs in Southern California. Torie is currently a director for The Sports Shack Volleyball Club where she coached two teams to the championships in the past five years. Torie is currently the assistant coach at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. Torie played at two-time NCAA semi-finalist, California State University at Bakersfield and earned an All-American award as a senior middle blocker. She graduated with a Child Development Degree and is now working toward her multiple-subject teaching credential and education administration master’s degree. The Advance Sports Training philosophy is based on Torie’s broad experience with children and teaching methods.
